Kevin M. Doulens, MD

Dr. Kevin M. Doulens

Dr. Doulens is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. After attending medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, and completing a five-year orthopaedic surgery residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Doulens elected to gain additional training in his chosen sub-specialty, Sports Medicine, through participation in a Fellowship Training Program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to starting First Coast Orthopedics, Dr. Doulens was an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville, where he specialized in sports medicine and the diagnosis and treatment of overuse and traumatic injuries of the knee and shoulder.

Since coming to Florida, Dr. Doulens has been the Team Physician for the Jacksonville Suns professional baseball club, the Jacksonville Barracudas professional hockey team, and Edward Waters College. He is a medical director for the Jacksonville Marathon. He has also taken care of the Nashville Sounds professional baseball club and Vanderbilt University's Football and Soccer Teams. He remains active in research and teaching, and is the author of several surgical papers and chapters dealing with orthopaedics and sports medicine. Dr. Doulens was elected as one of "America's Top Orthopedists" in 2009 by the Consumer Research Council of America. He is active in both the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He enjoys biking, surfing and travelling with his wife, Carolyn and two children.

Michael J. Patney, D.O.

Dr. Michael J. Patney

Dr. Patney has been practicing Orthopedics for the last 12 years. His first practice was in Pennsylvania where he cared for patients for 5 years. Subsequently, he was recruited to the University of Florida in Jacksonville where he has practiced for the last 6 years. At the University of Florida, he served as the Chief of Adult Reconstruction. During his time in Jacksonville, he has developed a thriving practice in adult reconstruction with emphasis on complex reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Patney has been a pioneer in the field of total joint arthroplasty and was one of the first surgeons in North Florida to offer large head metal on metal hip replacement. He is FDA certified to perform the Oxford partial knee replacement as well as the Birmingham hip resurfacing. Dr. Patney has also participated in the development of several joint implants and continues to work closely with researchers and developers of joint implants. Dr. Patney has taught numerous orthopedists during his time at the University of Florida and given a multitude of lectures nationally on joint replacement. He is currently a clinical examiner as well as an oral examiner for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He has also attained the honor of Fellow in the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics.
